71-76 GHz and 81-86 GHz radiofrequency bands are now open for SPs

On July 14, 2016 the State Commission for Radio Frequencies under the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus introduced amendments to the Decision No. 17K/08 dated May 15, 2008 "On allocation of radiofrequency bands for radio-electronic means of fixed radioservices". The Decision now includes 71-76 GHz and 81-86 GHz radiofrequency bands.

These radiofrequency bands are now allocated for radiorelay communications planning and operation of radio-electronic means (radiorelay stations) in Belarus.

This will allow radio spectrum users to use 71-76 GHz and 81-86 GHz radiofrequency bands for radio relay stations without individual permission of Radio Frequencies Commission.

This range has a number of advantages:

  • poor utilization of millimeter frequency range
  • rapid decay of radiowaves eliminates the problem of interference (no interference due to reflections from various obstacles in the urban environment), it automatically solves the problem of frequency planning
  • narrow radiating pattern

Radiorelay stations of millimeter frequency bands is a low cost alternative to fiber-optic communication lines. They are quick to deploy and do not require a cable duct.
